Sarah’s ultimate summer day

Here’s how I’ll spend my next day off.

I’ll start with a long bike ride. I’ll get up early. It will be the longest ride I’ve ever done — probably 30 miles, just to prove to myself that I can do it.

I will be so over the moon and glowing with happiness and exhaustion after that I will treat myself to delicious ginger lemon juice from my favorite local co-op along with my favorite Dragon Tofu Sandwich. That’s right. Because I’m treating myself, I’ll ask them to make me the sandwich instead of the wrap at the custom sandwich counter.

I’ll eat it outside probably, staring off into space, daydreaming and listening to music, blissfully not thinking for at least an hour.

Next, I’ll head to the lake and do one of the kayak or standup paddle-boarding lessons, depending on how adventurous I feel. I’ve always wanted to try stand up paddle-boarding and I feel like it would be an amazing core workout. (That’s what everyone says, at least.) Secretly, I’m hoping it will be really fun and hard to stay balanced so I fall off at least once or twice so I can laugh at myself and struggle to get back on.

If I go kayaking, I will also swim and then struggle to get back in the kayak. It will be fun, and nearly impossible, and I’ll be reminded that I’m not as young as I used to be.

After, I will go someplace new I’ve never been. It would be fun to explore! Getting a bit lost would be the best way to end the day. Maybe in a sculpture maze or garden, or in the woods. Someplace beautiful and awe-inspiring. I’ll spend the rest of the day there, wandering, and coming up with new ideas.

The best way to end the day would be at a place like home or a home away from home. Maybe talking about travel, making plans. The moon will be bright like the sun so it will be both a perfect day and night.
